Flagstaff Snow Days 2019

This was the first trip of the year and it was awesome! I moved to Arizona to enjoy the heat and stay away from the cold that I grew up in the Chicagoland area. There are sometimes that I just want to play in the snow. A very last minute trip landed us in Flagstaff. Just a couple hours north of Phoenix and they were getting dumped on all week. We lucked out and found a cabin nestled in small wooded community just south of Flagstaff. There were 10 of us total in the cabin which made for great nights. Friday night we departed Phoenix and got up to the cabin in the evening. There was cold beer and wine already waiting for us! We quickly unpacked our bags and joined the rest of the Cactus 4 Wheelers. With the Instant Pot cooking and the grill fired up we prepared a family style dinner. As the snow continued we all got a good nights rest. Saturday morning the rest of the folks coming up to off-road with us all met at the cabin. We made a huge breakfast, several pots of coffee and began to get the rigs ready for the trail. The first part of the morning we went up to the Cinder Hills OHV area. This was a simple but fun loop with climbs and whoops, lots of whoops. There was a spot we got to that was a huge open area, snow donuts for all! It was so funny to see all the trucks, jeeps and G wagons just spinning in circles. We also stopped here and sledded on the huge hill for a while which was an absolute blast! We headed into town after we finished the loop for some lunch at NiMarco's for some pizza and beer. After lunch we headed back out to the trails. We were out near FR 245 trying to get to FR 171 to check out the Lava tubes and head back in. Although we never made farther than a mile into the trail it was still fun. We came up on several stuck vehicles such as Civics, suv's and other sorts of families who thought it was a good idea to go out into foot deep snow. Anyhow we helped recover a couple vehicles to clear the trail but by that time, the sun had started to set and collectively as a group we decided to just turn around. We got back to the cabin and began a late night of shenanigans. Wonderful friends, great drinks, better food and left, right center really made this night. Another successful C4W trip in the books!
