I've been super busy the past few months. For those who don't know. I was going through the fire academy for the City of Phoenix. I graduated a couple weeks ago and hope to get back to doing weekend adventures once again. Anyhow, the week of graduation my family came in and wanted to do some exploring so we made some easy day trips. The first part we went to Butcher Jones and Saguaro Lake. The second day we went to Sedona and spent all day off-roading, shopping and sight seeing. Butcher Jones is an easy day trip. I live about 20 minutes from the trail head and there are so many areas to explore. We went to cove 1 and cove 2 this particular trip. We got out and put our feet in the water for a while. Set up some chairs and had a couple beers. It was very relaxing and great little time on the lake beach. I let my dad, brother and friend take my truck for a couple turns to let them have some fun too. We climbed up a larger hill that overlooks the lake and 4 peaks range. It was a super fun time. The second day trip was to the amazing city of Sedona. This is one of my favorite places in Arizona. Everything here is made for fun, whether it's the off-roading, mountain biking, camping or shopping, there is just so much to do. We started the day driving early from Phoenix and getting into town in the morning. We gassed up, air downed and headed out on the Broken Arrow 4x4 trail. This is a classic and if you haven't rode it and live in Arizona, it should definitely be put on the list. We made some pit stops along the way on the trail. The first was submarine rock, we parked and hiked up a couple hundred feet and just took in the breath taking views. The beautiful slick rock looks to just go on forever with red rock backdrop. The next spot along the trail is chicken point. This looks back towards the southwest portion of town. There is also a view of the "White Line" mountain bike trail. One of the gnarliest looking trails in the area. Lastly we played around on the slick rock before heading out to lunch. Pizza and beers and a little bit of crystal and stone shopping and our day was complete. We started our drive back to Phoenix and got some more food and beers along the way. Overall it was great to show my family my local playgrounds and what they are missing back in the Midwest.
